Shiny Penny (Tipsy Girlfriend)

And she’ll stop and pick up a shiny penny
Even though she may have had just a few too many
She says it makes her feel like a lotto winner
Like spicy hot wings and a chicken dinner

Chorus:
She’s a tipsy girlfriend
She comes in just like a whirlwind (a whirlwind)
She thinks every stranger is her new friend
And doesn’t want the night to end

Well, she’s on a roll now and, loving how she feels
Buys a dozen scratch-offs, and breaks her high-heel,
She heads to play bingo, in her daddy’s truck,
Crossing all her fingers, hoping for some good luck, yeah.

Bridge:
A young man she gave her love to many years ago
He stole her luck and he stole her love
Things went south and why she’ll never know
He left her wishing on those stars above.

She wakes up the next day, looks in her mirror
Last night’s bad decisions looking so much clearer
As she drinks her coffee, things start looking up
Making plans for tonight, as she rinses out her cup.

She’s a tipsy Girlfriend

This song was written in Marina del Rey near Los Angeles over New Year’s 2025. Leslie started it, thinking about the old rhyme, “See a penny, pick it up. All day long you’ll have good luck.” The alternate title of this song is “Tipsy Girlfriend.” The song became about a woman who seems destined to have bad luck, but keeps trying. She seems aware she’s making bad decisions but continues to try to make her way through life. Like some of our other songs, this one seemed to need a bridge. Unlike many of our other songs, I wrote the bridge lyrics on this, while Leslie wrote many of the verse lyrics.
