DIRTY ANNIE

dirty annie lyrics page 15

Dirty Annie

Poplar street at dusk silhouette through the dust
Shotgun and nightgown she roams this town
Rugged railroad men, painted ladies lookin’ to sin
Orphaned thoughts of hope litter the ground

Chorus:
Dirty Annie doesn’t get no sleep
Got no shoes upon her feet
Pray to Annie for your soul to keep
Oh, she don’t rest in peace, no
She don’t rest in peace

Forest City, born and raised.
She was so pretty in those days
Mining town shut down Annie stayed
That broken down hotel became her prison cell
If only mommy dearest could see her now

Chorus:

Bridge:

Outlaws, miners and pioneers never messed with
Annabel all those years
She watched her golden dreams turn to dust
Under pressure and over time it got harder not to lose her mind
She’s still doing time.

Last Chorus:

Dirty Annie doesn’t get no sleep got no shoes upon her feet
Pray to Annie for your soul to keep
Oh, she don’t rest, no she ain’t restin’
Annie doesn’t take no shit and if you don’t believe it
Take a walk down Poplar Street and pray you don’t meet Dirty Annie

This song was written only by Kate. It was recorded in 2023 for Kate to have as a single, but it got lost in the shuffle so I asked her if I could put it on this album. I added a very small guitar part, Nashville Tuning, on the choruses, which is buried in the mix. Except for that guitar this was recorded at Scooter’s Place and Scott Smith recorded, mixed and mastered it. Jeff Jones engineered my guitar part, and re-mixed it. It will be re-mastered by Airshow, who does all the Stillhouse Junkies mastering for their albums. Kate wrote this song about Annabelle Stark, in St. Elmo, Colorado. This is a well known ghost town story from the turn of the 1900’s. Look it up! It’s an interesting read! Scott and Fred produced this song. Kate plays the acoustic rhythm guitar (and actually plays my Taylor on this). She wanted us to record 2 versions, a clean version and an alternate version. The version on this album is the alternate version that has the word “shit” in it. The clean version has the line, “Dirty Annie don’t take no lip” instead. Note that Annie was called “Dirty” because she didn’t bathe. The band really rips on this song! The “clean” version will be released as a single under Kate’s name only and should be available on all the streaming services soon
