I’ll Be Your Pillow
I’ll Be Your Pillow
Chorus:
I’ll be your pillow
When it’s hard to sleep
I’ll hold you close, dear
Lay your head on me
I’ll be your pillow
When you’re done counting sheep
I’ll keep you safe, dear
Lay your head on me
Verse:
Cozy warm blanket in front of the fire
That won’t do, (that won’t do)
Warm glass of brandy, the curtains drawn
That won’t do, that won’t do
You’ve tried your best just to finally rest
When you’re ready, I’m here for you.
Chorus:
Big feather bed, soft candlelight
That won’t do, (that won’t do)
Old Blue Eyes crooning your favorite tune
That won’t do, (that won’t do)
You’ve tried your best just to finally rest
When you give up, I’m here for you.

Kate had the beginnings of this song that she had written a few years before. She said after a gig she had with Cannondolls, that Caitlin Cannon had mentioned how tired she was – I believe they were standing up – and Kate said, offering her shoulder, “I’ll be your pillow”. Kate wrote that down soon after and started working on the song. Her chord progression reminded me of a 50’s style Frank Sinatra song. While we were all together scatter shooting coming up with ideas on verses for this song Leslie came up with the “cozy warm blanket in front of the fire” line and the “big featherbed” and the “Old Blue Eyes” lines, but the bulk of the lyrics are Kate’s. I love the progression Kate came up with on this, and Alissa’s fiddle part where she plays the chorus melody.
