I worked up the progression this and texted it to Kate. I really liked the fingerpicking riff, which I keep up through the entire song. Minutes after I texted it to Kate she responded with a first verse. I believe it was in her “book of verses” that she keeps. When she recorded it and texted it back she hummed the last line, which I loved! I didn’t find out until the next time we all met to do the co-write that her humming that part was a placeholder, and not meant to be part of the song. I told her I thought it was an amazing addition to the song and that it worked. She agreed to leave it like that, and I still think it’s an amazing addition to the song. After she sent it back to us I worked on the next 2 verses, and they were lightly edited by Leslie and Kate. This song came about really quickly. I thought we were finished with the song, but I had a nagging feeling that it wasn’t “complete”. It needed a bridge. It didn’t take me too long to come up with the bridge on this. I love the descending line of first part of the bridge. I also love how coming out of the bridge back into the verse progression is so seamless.
