Starlight
Starlight, star bright
First star I see tonight
You are my star,
All I need tonight
Chorus:
I wish you may
I wish you might
Be my star
All I need tonight
Starlight star bright
You’re all I see tonight
You are my star
All I need tonight
Bridge:
When clouds are overhead, and storms are moving in
And all the stars disappear.
You hold me close and you whisper to me and
I feel so safe that you’re here.
Starlight, star bright
I need you in my life
You are my star
And you are my life
Shining so bright
You’re all I need tonight.
Shining so bright
You’re all I need tonight.
This was the first song that was written for this album. I had the progression, along with several others, that I texted to Kate Willyard, Alissa Wolf, and Leslie. Kate texted back the next day with the melody and a few verses. We all loved what she came up with. This was right after the “Come Back To Colorado” album that Kate and I did together, and has the same vibe. I added a bridge and we all struggled over the lyrics for that. I ended up writing the lyrics for the bridge and I think it ties the song together nicely. When we recorded it, Kate did the vocals solo. I had thoughts about making it another duet, so a week after the initial recording session I sang the second verse and the first three lines of the bridge, and then struggled to find the harmony for the chorus and the outro. I almost gave up, but after a few quiet moments with the keyboard at home and using Voice Memos on my iPhone I came up with the best harmony. I think this is a great song to close out this album.
